Computer and Electronics Design is a minor offered by the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University, open to students in majors other than engineering science. The minor introduces electrical circuits, digital logic, software design and advanced electronics topics, with laboratory and project-based components covering circuit analysis, embedded systems, digital signal processing and VLSI design. Entry is open to non-engineering-science majors who have completed five specified prerequisite courses — Applied and Computational Mathematics 232, Engineering Science 100W and 105W, Physics 120, and an approved computing course (CMPT 125/127, CMPT 135, CMPT 128 or ENSC 151) — each with a minimum grade of C-. Enrollment is competitive and limited, and students must maintain an engineering science grade point average and cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in the required courses. The minor lets students outside engineering add technical depth in circuit and system design to complement their primary major.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entrance to the Computer and Electronics Design minor is open to all non-engineering-science majors, who may apply after completing five prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of C- in each: MATH 232, ENSC 100W, ENSC 105W, PHYS 120, and one of CMPT 125/127, CMPT 135, CMPT 128 or ENSC 151. Enrollment is competitive and limited to available spaces. A minimum engineering science GPA of 2.0 in the prerequisite courses and a minimum cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.0 are also required.
