FASS One is a first-year cohort program of SFU's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, based at the Surrey campus. It is designed to connect first-year students with peers and professors before they continue into a major, giving students reserved seating in core major courses, priority enrollment in FASS courses at Surrey, weekly mentoring sessions, a dedicated academic advisor, and peer mentor support during the transition from high school to university. Students in the program study full-time at the Surrey campus over two terms, completing at least three SFU Surrey courses each term, including at least two offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. FASS One provides a foundation for students planning to major in subjects such as anthropology, criminology, economics, English, gender, sexuality and women's studies, history, international studies, philosophy, political science, psychology, or sociology, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Course-planning sessions help students choose their first courses.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: FASS One is not a separately admitted program with its own GPA or course requirements: it is an opt-in first-year cohort for students who have already been admitted to Simon Fraser University. Its official overview page lists only an Overview, Career possibilities, and How to apply tab, with no dedicated requirements page, and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences site confirms students must already hold an SFU admission offer and request a seat in the cohort directly from the faculty. Eligibility therefore follows the general SFU undergraduate admission requirements of the applicant's chosen pathway (Canadian high school, transfer, international, etc.), not a FASS One-specific threshold.
