Program details

Overview

Trent University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing prepares students for careers as registered nurses through hands-on learning that begins in first year, combining lectures, seminars, simulation labs, and clinical practice. Students complete more than 1,000 hours of clinical placements across the four-year program, gaining experience in Trent's Simulation Hub, described as the first internationally accredited university simulation centre in Canada, which uses high-fidelity mannequins to simulate scenarios such as childbirth and chronic disease management. Delivered on the Peterborough campus, the program does not offer a co-op stream. Students can choose elective coursework focused on areas such as aging, mental health, Indigenous communities, rural healthcare, and gender and women's health, building toward care that spans different populations and settings. Opportunities to present research at regional health conferences and to gain international experience, including community health placements in rural Honduras or Guatemala, supplement the clinical curriculum. The program suits students seeking a practice-focused nursing degree with substantial clinical exposure from the outset, combined with the ability to develop a particular area of interest within healthcare, and prepares graduates to pursue licensure and practice as registered nurses in a range of medical and community settings.
