Overview

Trent University's Certificate in Language and Communication Sciences (LCS) lets students have relevant linguistics, psychology, and biology coursework formally recognized when applying to professional programs in speech-language pathology or related fields. As a stand-alone credential it is open to applicants with the equivalent of Ontario Grade 12 or mature-student status and no prior LCS coursework, though direct applicants must normally have completed LING 1001H, PSYC 1020H, and PSYC 1030H (or equivalent) beforehand. Students already pursuing an Honours or General degree may instead earn the certificate by completing the required 4.5 credits, either before or alongside completing their degree. Certificate courses can be counted concurrently toward university degree requirements, and LING credits may also count toward the Option in Languages and Option in Linguistics. Credits earned are transferable to the General or Honours BA and BSc degrees.
