Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Accounting is offered by McGill's School of Continuing Studies and provides core competencies for a career in accounting, including preparation for the CPA Professional Education Program leading to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. The curriculum covers financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, and accounting information systems. Coursework develops the ability to apply current financial accounting practices, understand the financial reporting process, perform auditing duties, apply tax law principles, determine accounting income and working capital, carry out cost accounting including cost-volume-profit analysis, and apply corporate finance concepts such as capital budgeting and risk and return. The program consists of 10 courses totalling 30 credits and can be completed full-time or part-time, with classes held on weekday evenings and Saturdays, delivered in-person. It is administered within the Administration and Governance unit of the School of Continuing Studies and admits students in the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.
