Designed for students already studying translation, German, or Hispanic studies, this certificate adds a third working language. Two tracks are offered: German-French translation, and Spanish-French/French-Spanish translation. Courses focus mainly on general translation, with some introduction to specialized domains such as technical, scientific, commercial, and literary translation, and examine the mechanisms and theories underlying the discipline. The program is interdisciplinary, drawing courses from the Department of Linguistics and Translation and the Department of World Literatures and Languages, and it complements a concurrent program of study in translation, German studies, or Hispanic studies. The 30-credit undergraduate certificate is offered at the Montreal campus and can be completed full-time or part-time, taught by faculty from both contributing departments, and prepares students for translation work involving a third language alongside English and French.
