The DESS en traduction (Graduate Diploma in Translation) at Université de Montréal is a 30-credit specialized postgraduate diploma in English-French translation, offered without a thesis or major research project. Four mandatory courses, translation technologies, contemporary difficulties in French, introduction to translation, and theoretical currents in translation, cover 12 credits, and four elective courses chosen from scientific/technical, economic/administrative, biomedical or legal specializations make up the remaining 18 credits. The program is offered full-time or part-time with daytime classes, and includes the possibility of an international study exchange. Minimum full-time duration is two semesters, with a maximum of twelve semesters (four years) from initial enrolment. Graduates work as translators or terminologists, and the diploma also serves as a pathway into the university's master's program in translation.
