This 30-credit certificate develops translation skills, primarily from English into French, alongside written French and English proficiency. Required courses cover English composition, French grammar and usage, writing style and clarity, an introduction to translation, and comparative French-English stylistics; optional courses let students practise general, specialized, and literary translation in both directions, along with subtitling, dubbing, translation technology, and translation theory. The program introduces students to translating general, specialized, and literary texts from English to French, strengthens written French through correct and structured composition, improves written English, and builds awareness of the lexical, grammatical, and stylistic differences between the two languages. It is offered part-time only, with admission in the fall and winter terms, at the Sherbrooke campus, and suits students seeking professional-level bilingual writing and translation skills.
