This 90-credit Bachelor of Science in Health Biochemistry offers four streams: general, medical genetics, genomics and proteomics, and organic synthesis. The curriculum covers fundamental and clinical biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and organic and analytical chemistry, alongside practical laboratory training in equipment handling, precise experimentation, and data analysis. Students develop skills in bioinformatics, statistical analysis, and data visualization and modelling relevant to biochemistry, and learn to apply scientific knowledge to complex theoretical and practical problems, interpret research data, and design and carry out research projects. The program also builds scientific communication, teamwork, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills, along with an understanding of ethics and social responsibility in biochemistry practice. Full-time or part-time study is available, with admission in the fall and winter terms on the Sherbrooke campus, under a regular or co-op (stage-integrated) study regime. The program can lead to an integrated bachelor's-to-master's pathway into research-stream master's programs at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, subject to eligibility confirmed with the program's academic direction.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires meeting Université de Sherbrooke's general first-cycle admission requirements, plus one of: a DEC in Natural Sciences (200.B1); a DEC in Science, Literature and Art (700.A1); an International Baccalaureate diploma (200.Z1); a DEC in Laboratory Techniques: Biotechnology (210.AA); or another DEC combined with cell biology, general chemistry, chemistry of solutions, differential calculus, integral calculus, and two of mechanics, electricity and magnetism, or waves and modern physics; applicants holding a DEC in biological or physical technology may qualify with the same chemistry and mathematics courses plus one of the listed physics courses. Holders of a technical DEC should consult the university's DEC-to-bachelor's bridging pathways for program-specific conditions.
