The PhD in Computer Engineering (Doctorat en genie informatique) at Universite de Sherbrooke is a 90-credit research doctorate leading to the Philosophiae Doctor degree, delivered full-time on the Sherbrooke campus under a regular or industry-partnership study regime, with 84 mandatory credits and 3 optional credits. It prepares graduates to become high-level professionals capable of identifying and implementing innovative solutions to complex engineering and technological research-and-development problems, or to pursue academic research careers. Students deepen specialized expertise, independently conduct original research, and develop rigorous scientific and technological problem-solving and communication skills, culminating in a doctoral thesis. Research areas in the department include neurocomputational systems engineering, embedded and connected artificial intelligence, instrumentation, robotics, and speech, signal and audio processing for communications and networks. Admission Requirements: Applicants must have completed a master's degree in computer engineering or an equivalent (except under the accelerated master's-to-doctorate pathway) and must have demonstrated the aptitude required for research. Candidates must secure the agreement of an eligible faculty supervisor. A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.3 scale (or an equivalent academic record) is required. An accelerated pathway from the master's program is available to students who maintain continuity of their research project and supervisor, have completed at least 21 credits of the master's program including its research-methodology and research-project-definition courses plus 15 elective credits with a GPA of at least 3.0/4.3, and receive a favourable recommendation from their research supervisor.
