The Doctorate in Language Sciences (Ph.D.) at Universite de Sherbrooke is a 90-credit research doctorate in the Departement des arts, langues et litteratures, delivered on the main Sherbrooke campus with admission in fall, winter and summer terms. The programme trains researchers to independently design and complete an original, large-scale research project and to demonstrate, through scientific writing, analytical and synthesis skills addressing theoretical and applied questions in current language-sciences research, with particular emphasis on Quebec French, linguistic variation, the history of French, plurilingualism, second- and foreign-language acquisition, corpus building and language policy. Coursework comprises 78 mandatory credits, covering thesis-project preparation, the thesis project itself, doctoral activities and the dissertation, plus 12 optional credits. Admission requires a confirmed thesis supervisor affiliated with the department before enrolment.
