This program leads to a Master of Arts in Philosophy, a 45-credit, full-time research-based degree offered at the University of Sherbrooke's main Sherbrooke campus and its Longueuil campus, with admission in the fall and winter terms. Of the 45 credits, 33 are mandatory research activities, including directed readings, four sequential research-activity courses, a thesis project, and a 15-credit thesis (mémoire); the remaining 12 credits are chosen from graduate seminars covering the history of philosophy, epistemology, ethics and applied ethics, phenomenology, hermeneutics, philosophy of language, political philosophy, and other specialized topics. The program deepens students' knowledge in a chosen area — history of thought, contemporary problems in philosophy, applied ethics, practical philosophy, or culture and society — develops historico-critical training in philosophy, and builds the research skills needed to investigate a specific philosophical question, master a working method, and present findings in a scholarly manner. Admission requires an undergraduate degree in philosophy or its equivalent.
