Overview

The Baccalaureat en psychoeducation is a 90-credit, campus-based bachelor's degree at UQAT preparing students to work with individuals and groups experiencing adaptation difficulties or at risk of them. Coursework covers human development across the lifespan, developmental and adaptation disorders, neuroscience, observation and assessment techniques, intervention planning, and approaches to working with children, adolescents, families, and communities in crisis, community, and intercultural contexts. The program includes two supervised practicums (Stage I: integration into a practice setting; Stage II: sustained intervention) and requires 30 hours of community volunteer work completed during the first courses. Graduates work as psychoeducational interventionists or human relations officers in schools, rehabilitation centres, hospitals, youth protection, and community organizations. The degree is terminal for direct entry to the workforce and also prepares students for graduate study in psychoeducation leading to membership in the Ordre des psychoeducateurs et psychoeducatrices du Quebec. It is offered at UQAT's Mont-Laurier and Rouyn-Noranda campuses.
