Overview

The Certificate in Elementary Education Support is a 30-credit undergraduate certificate offered by UQAT's Departement des sciences de l'education. It prepares substitute teachers to intervene with students at the preschool and elementary levels, building the background knowledge needed to understand the challenges of pedagogical renewal and to develop practical classroom tools. Mandatory courses cover an introduction to the teaching profession and training project and a workshop on cognitive efficiency in educational contexts. Students choose additional optional courses across English or French grammar, learning-object courses in the social world, English language arts, mathematics, and science and technology, as well as courses on the organization of education in Quebec, pedagogical use of digital technology, education history, child development, classroom management, and a supervised practicum with seminars. The certificate does not itself constitute a teaching diploma or legal teaching authorization.
