This program trains competent, professional vocational teachers for Quebec's secondary-level vocational training centres (centres de formation professionnelle), targeting twelve professional competencies spanning pedagogy, classroom management, ICT integration, and community collaboration. It is offered part-time and largely at a distance across the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, with some courses delivered in the evening or on weekends in an intensive format. Over 120 credits, students complete psycho-pedagogical coursework, discipline-specific training tied to their trade or profession, complementary courses, and four supervised practicums (24 credits) that progress from initial classroom insertion to full integration of teaching competencies. Up to 27 credits of prior disciplinary competencies can be recognized through a portfolio submitted in the Bilan des acquis course. A teaching licence is awarded after 90 credits, and a full teaching certificate (brevet) after all 120 credits and 3,000 hours of relevant trade experience, both issued by Quebec's Ministry of Education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a technical Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in a field corresponding to their vocational teaching area, a relevant university diploma or partially completed bachelor's degree, or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) combined with being at least 21 years old. All applicants must demonstrate French proficiency per UQAT's institutional policy. To receive the final teaching certificate (brevet), candidates must document 3,000 hours of relevant trade experience via an employer letter, in addition to academic transcripts and proof of their vocational diploma.
