Overview
This Bachelor of Social Work trains practitioners to conduct critical analysis and develop interventions aimed at social change when working with individuals, groups, and communities. The 90-credit program spans three years across six trimesters plus a mandatory internship, and students choose between two profiles: a regular pathway with three elective courses and one enrichment course, or an international pathway that reduces elective coursework to make room for study abroad, with the supervised internship component worth 9 to 12 credits depending on the profile chosen. The program is offered at two campuses - Gatineau, with full-time and part-time options, and Saint-Jerome, full-time only - with a single admission period each autumn and enrolment capped at 50 full-time and 10 part-time students in Gatineau and 50 full-time students in Saint-Jerome. It is designed for candidates holding a college diploma (DEC), at least 15 university credits, or 12 months or more of documented experience in social intervention work. The choice between a standard placement and an international internship option distinguishes this program from single-track social work degrees, giving students a way to gain cross-border practice experience as part of their required fieldwork.

Admission Requirements: Admission runs through three pathways. Applicants may hold a DEC in human sciences or a technical DEC in social work, special-care counselling, or a related field; alternatively, at least 15 completed university credits with a cumulative average of 2.5/4.3 qualify on the university-studies base. A work-experience pathway accepts applicants with 12 months of paid or volunteer work in social intervention and relevant knowledge of the field. All applicants must demonstrate sufficient French through the DEC's ministerial French exam, the ministry's university-admission French test, or an equivalent francophone-university exam, with compensatory measures available after an unsuccessful attempt. Applicants also complete a questionnaire and may be called for an interview. Admission is once yearly for the fall trimester, and places are contingent: 50 full-time and 10 part-time seats at the Gatineau campus, 50 full-time at Saint-Jerome.

Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply directly to UQO: regular undergraduate and certificate programmes close 1 December 2026, while co-operative-education bachelor's programmes and all graduate programmes close 15 October 2026, with admission decisions issued from August onward. International applicants had an earlier cut-off of 1 August 2026 for winter 2027 entry; as of the fetch date that window has already closed for most programmes, and several programmes are not open to international applicants for this term at all. UQO has not yet published fall 2027 dates, and none of these deadlines are rolling; all are firm cut-offs. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
