This doctoral program in linguistics is a 90-credit degree with an estimated full-time duration of four years. It trains researchers in one of two axes: theoretical and descriptive linguistics, or language and society, with faculty expertise covering phonology, morphology, syntax, phonetics, lexicology, sociolinguistics and computational linguistics across multiple languages. Candidates must hold a master's degree in linguistics, or an equivalent diploma, and must secure a research supervisor before applying. The application must include a curriculum vitae, a seven-to-ten-page research project description, three letters of assessment, and written confirmation from the proposed supervisor. Admission is offered for the fall and winter terms, and exceptionally in summer. Seminars are scheduled during both day and evening hours, allowing full-time or part-time study to fit around other commitments.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree in linguistics, or a diploma judged equivalent, and must secure a research supervisor before applying. The application must include a curriculum vitae, a research project of seven to ten pages, three letters of assessment, and written confirmation from the proposed supervisor. A program or graduation grade point average of at least 3.33 on a 4.33 scale, or the equivalent, is required. Non-francophone applicants must achieve a score of at least 600 out of 699 on the TCF, including at least 14 out of 20 on the written expression component, and at least an Intermediate II level on the Versant English Placement Test (VEPT).
