This certificate gives students a foundation in the Russian language alongside the history, geography, literature, and culture of the Russian-speaking world, building oral and written proficiency through sequential language courses. The 30-credit program is offered part-time only, generally completed over four to six sessions, with up to 15 credits of prior learning eligible for recognition; some courses are held in the evening. It can be followed partially or entirely at a distance, with hybrid and comodal course formats also available. Admission is open only to applicants whose mother tongue is not Russian and who did not complete their pre-university studies in Russian. Admission is offered in the Fall and Winter terms. The certificate suits students building working knowledge of Russian for academic, professional, or personal purposes rather than those seeking a full language degree.
