Program details
Overview
Computer Science is a Bachelor of Computing major at the University of Guelph with an applied focus on mathematics, systems development, programming, and algorithm design and analysis. Students choose one of four specialized tracks: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or UX (user experience), allowing the degree to be tailored toward a particular area of computing. The standard track is four years; a co-operative education track extends the program to five years and includes five paid work terms that alternate with academic semesters. The program emphasizes applied, hands-on problem-solving alongside computing theory and is recognized for strong research quality in computer science within Canada. Graduates are prepared for software development, data science, cybersecurity, and user-experience careers in industry, as well as for further study in computing-related graduate programs.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Computer Science Bachelor of Computing follows the University of Guelph's general Ontario Secondary School admission process: an applicant's admission average is calculated from the top six completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including any courses required for the program. Guelph does not publish fixed minimum cut-offs; year-to-year cut-offs are set by the quality and quantity of applications received and the space available in the program, and the university's own estimated ranges do not guarantee an offer of admission. All offers remain conditional on completing the OSSD (or equivalent), the required six courses, and achieving the minimum final average stated in the offer.
