Program details
Overview
The PhD in Computational Sciences is an interdisciplinary program combining computer science methods with a second discipline chosen by the student, such as Economics, Engineering, Geography, Integrative Biology, Psychology or Veterinary Medicine, depending on the student's research and career goals. The program is thesis-based and full-time study is nominally completed in four years (12 semesters). Students complete coursework, two public seminars, a qualifying exam, and defend a dissertation. Each candidate is supervised by two faculty members, an advisor from the School of Computer Science and a co-advisor from the application discipline, and both must be confirmed before an application is submitted. An optional collaborative specialization in One Health is available. Admission normally requires a thesis-based master's degree, and applicants whose first language is not English must submit an English proficiency test. Graduates pursue careers in academia, research, data engineering, machine learning and software development.
