Overview
This combined program leads to both a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Education, preparing graduates to teach Physical Education at the secondary level. Delivered by the University of Saskatchewan on the Saskatoon campus over a designated five-year, 165-credit-unit structure, it blends kinesiology coursework, including foundational science, activity-based courses, and applied kinesiology study, with education theory, foundations, and psychology or sociology of education. Students choose a second teaching subject alongside Physical Education and take part in mandatory peer-mentored learning communities during the first two years. Field experience begins with an exploratory pre-extended practicum in a partner school, followed by an extended practicum of about sixteen weeks of full teaching duties, or an alternative combining a shorter Saskatchewan placement with adult-education or international experience; placements occur throughout the province rather than being guaranteed in Saskatoon. Admission to the practicum stage requires minimum weighted averages in both education and the student's teaching subjects. Admission Requirements: The BSc(Kin)/BEd Combined Program admits directly from high school in Saskatchewan with Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Physics 30, and Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30 (recommended). Admission is competitive and limited to approximately 35 students: the regular-admission average is 82%, and applicants who apply by the early-admission deadline with an average of 90% or higher are admitted early; after the early deadline, remaining applicants are ranked by admission average until spaces are filled. Later in the program, the extended-practicum stage additionally requires an Education Weighted Average and External Weighted Average of 60%, a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector check, and Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification. English proficiency is USask's general undergraduate Language Proficiency Regulations (admissions.usask.ca/requirements/english-language-proficiency.php): IELTS Academic 6.5/6.0, TOEFL iBT 86/19, PTE Academic 63/59, Duolingo 120/100, CAEL 70/60. Application Deadline:The University of Saskatchewan does not publish fixed general application deadlines for its direct-entry undergraduate colleges (Agriculture and Bioresources, Arts and Science, Education, Edwards School of Business, Engineering, Kinesiology, Dental Hygiene, Dental Therapy): admission requirements and deadlines for the 2027-28 cycle become available only once applications open on 25 September 2026, and the site gives no separate international closing date.
