At University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, BA/BS in Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP) is offered as a bachelor's degree in Education & Teaching programme. The programme runs for 4 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 39,156 per year (CAD 8,090 per year for local students).
The Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program is a four-year, fully accredited direct-entry Bachelor of Education route designed for students of Métis ancestry, delivered in partnership with the Gabriel Dumont Institute at sites in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. The curriculum blends standard University of Saskatchewan education coursework with content on Métis history, Michif language, and social-justice, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive approaches to teaching, alongside practicum placements built into the degree. Students choose between Early/Middle Years and Secondary teaching options, and admission follows the university's standard entrance requirements, with allowance for students entering with advanced standing. The program combines academic instruction with extensive classroom experience intended to prepare graduates to respond to the needs of a diverse student population while increasing Métis representation within the teaching profession. It suits Métis students who want their teacher training delivered within a program built around their own history and language, and who may prefer studying at the Prince Albert site rather than the main Saskatoon campus.
