Overview

The Teaching Preparation Certificate is a non-credit, competency-based certificate offered by the University of Saskatchewan's College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. It is designed for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who already have prior teaching experience, have worked as a teaching assistant, or have completed training in teaching skills. Participants enrol in GPS 986.0 and work through competency-based requirements aligned with the university's Learning Charter, documenting their development in a culminating teaching portfolio. The portfolio includes a self-assessment of competencies, a teaching philosophy statement, and evidence of meeting outcomes and indicators across three competency categories. Successful completion of GPS 989.0 (Introduction to University Teaching) or GPS 982.0 (Mentored Teaching) can count as evidence toward meeting the outcomes in all three categories. The certificate carries no academic credit and formally recognizes teaching development undertaken during graduate study.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must be either a current Postdoctoral Fellow or a student registered in the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in a Master's or PhD program, with prior teaching experience, experience as a teaching assistant, or training in teaching skills.
