Overview
Human Biology is an undergraduate collaborative program based in the Department of Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto, examining the biology of the human species through the combined lenses of the biological and medical sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities. It is organized into five areas of study: Applied Genetics and Biotechnology, Global Health, Health & Disease, Human Biology, and Neuroscience. Four of the five areas offer a Specialist-level credential, and all five offer a Major. The program aims to build critical and creative thinking, self-directed learning, quantitative and analytical reasoning, and communication and research skills, and it incorporates community-engaged learning courses and undergraduate research opportunities. Enrolment is limited for some areas and open for others, with minimum grade requirements that vary by specialization, and tiered waitlists are used to manage access to high-demand courses. Students may add the Arts & Science Internship Program as an optional work-integrated learning stream. The program is intended for students pursuing an interdisciplinary education in biological and health sciences relevant to careers spanning research, health, and related fields.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science follows the University's general OUAC process (six 4U/M courses including ENG4U for Ontario applicants, or the equivalent senior credential internationally). Entry into Human Biology is decided after first year through POSt enrolment: the open-enrolment Major requires only 4.0 credits completed, with no minimum grade specified, while the limited-enrolment Specialist streams set course minimums that vary by sub-program and credits completed -- for example BIO130H1 at 65% with 4.0-8.5 credits, and with 9.0+ credits, BIO230H1/BIO255H1 at 65% for Applied Genetics & Biotechnology, Global Health and Health & Disease, or 70% for Neuroscience, alongside BIO220H1, HMB265H1/BIO260H1, BCH210H1 and, where applicable, PSL300H1; minimums move year to year with demand. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University's proficiency requirement (IELTS Academic 6.5, no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 89 overall with 22 in Speaking/Writing before 21 January 2026).

Application Deadline:University of Toronto uses one application deadline for domestic and international applicants alike for Fall 2027 entry: 15 January 2027 for most programmes, including Applied Science & Engineering, Arts & Science (St. George), the iSchool, Kinesiology & Physical Education, Nursing, Physician Assistant, and UTM and UTSC, with supporting documents also due 15 January 2027 (Engineering) or 1 February 2027 (most others). Medical Radiation Sciences has an extended 1 February 2027 deadline. A recommended early-application date of 7 November 2026 applies across the board, and several programmes (Rotman Commerce, Computer Science, Architecture, Kinesiology) require a supplementary component due 1 February 2027. Admission decisions are released from January through late May; UofT does not describe any programme as rolling. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
