Immunology at the University of Toronto St. George campus is offered as both a Specialist and a Major within the Faculty of Arts & Science. The Specialist gives students a theoretical understanding of the cellular and molecular basis of non-self recognition together with laboratory experience, while the Major provides fundamental training in immunology that can be combined with another program. Both draw on molecular biology, microbiology, pathology, and biochemistry to study the physiological responses triggered when foreign material is introduced into a vertebrate organism. Teaching is delivered in person through lectures, tutorials, and laboratory work. Enrolment requires completion of first-year courses including BIO120H1, BIO130H1, and a chemistry sequence (CHM135H1/CHM136H1 or CHM151Y1), with a minimum overall average and no individual course grade below a set threshold. Admission to the Faculty's Life Sciences admission category requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U/M-level courses, including English, Biology, Calculus & Vectors, and Chemistry.
