Physical and Mathematical Sciences is an Honours Bachelor of Science Specialist program at the University of Toronto Scarborough, providing a framework of courses in the physical sciences built on a mathematical foundation and relating astronomy, chemistry, computer science, physics, and statistics. It is intended to prepare students for careers in teaching, industry, and government, as well as for further graduate-level study. The Specialist requires 15.5 credits across four years: first-year chemistry, computer science, calculus, linear algebra, and physics; second-year linear algebra, multivariable calculus, differential equations, physics laboratory work, and courses in quantum physics, electricity and magnetism, and thermal physics; second- or third-year electives from astrophysics, chemistry, mathematics, and physics; and 4.0 credits of third- or fourth-year upper-level courses in astrophysics, computational mathematics, physics laboratory, classical and quantum mechanics, and research projects. Course substitutions are not permitted without the advance approval of the Program Supervisor. Admission from Ontario secondary school requires an OSSD with six Grade 12 4U/M courses, including English, Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, and Physics.
