Hons in Plant Biology (HBSc)

Plant Biology is an Honours Bachelor of Science Major program offered at the University of Toronto Scarborough. It provides a broad education across contemporary biology while allowing students to concentrate on plant-focused coursework in upper years, covering biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, physiology, and development as they apply to plants. The program totals 8.5 credits and includes introductory biology and chemistry courses, plant-specific courses such as Plant Development and Biotechnology, Plants: Life on the Edge, and Plant Physiology, plus additional upper-level science electives. A Health Sciences Stream variant and a co-operative work-integrated learning option are also offered under separate program codes. Admission to the University requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U/M-level courses, including English and Biology, with one of Calculus and Vectors, Advanced Functions, or Mathematics of Data Management, and Chemistry recommended. Internal enrolment in the Major additionally requires 4.0 completed credits including specific biology, chemistry, and mathematics or statistics courses, with admission based on academic performance.
