Environmental Geoscience is an Honours Specialization offered by the Department of Earth Sciences in Western University's Faculty of Science, designed to meet the minimum geoscience knowledge requirements for Professional Registration as a licensed geoscientist in Canada set by the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario and the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists. The 11.0-course module requires a 6.0-course core in Earth Sciences covering mineralogy, structural geology, sedimentology, hydrogeology and a capstone field or research course, together with Geography and Environment 2330A/B, plus a further 2.0 courses chosen from Earth Sciences and related electives addressing topics such as geomorphology, environmental geochemistry and applied geoscience. Entry follows a first-year foundation in chemistry, physics, biology and calculus/mathematics. Teaching is based on Western's main campus in London, Ontario. The professional-registration alignment suits students aiming toward careers as licensed geoscientists in environmental consulting, resource exploration or government geoscience roles.
