Surgery (MSc)

Surgery (MSc) is a thesis-based graduate program in the Department of Surgery at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, based at St. Joseph's Health Care London. It gives surgical residents and recent trainees an intensive research experience, pairing directed study with an original research project defended as a master's thesis. The program runs three terms full-time and prepares graduates for careers as clinician researchers at academic health sciences centres. Admission is intended for physicians who have completed an MD degree and at least two years of a surgical residency; applicants identify a research proposal and a supervisor in their surgical subspecialty area before admission. The Department of Surgery includes seven individual subspecialty training programs, and MSc candidates are encouraged to apply for funding such as the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's.
