Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in African Studies, offered by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, with entry available in fall, winter and summer for first-year and upper-year students. One of Canada's longest-running African Studies programs, the curriculum takes an interdisciplinary approach to the histories, cultures, politics, economies, art, music and literature of Africa and its diasporas, examining both historical and contemporary issues affecting African communities globally. Students develop research, communication and critical-thinking skills through coursework spanning the humanities and social sciences. The program suits students interested in African and diaspora studies who want a broad, interdisciplinary grounding in the continent's history, culture and global impact, with the flexibility to combine study with other arts and social-science disciplines.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma applicants need ENG4U and five additional 4U or M courses, with an admission average in the low-to-mid 70s and a final academic average of 70% required to maintain the offer; International Baccalaureate applicants need a minimum IB diploma score of 28. Equivalent province- and country-specific curriculum requirements apply to other applicants.
