Program details

Overview

This program leads to a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Software Engineering, offered by the Lassonde School of Engineering at the Keele Campus on a full-time or part-time basis. Students learn to design and build reliable software from their first year onward, working through hands-on labs and team projects within a collaborative student community, including access to dedicated student spaces. The curriculum develops practical skills in programming, software design, operating systems, testing and large-scale software development using current tools and technologies, with attention to working alongside and critically evaluating AI-based tools. A co-op or internship placement is available as part of the program's experiential education options, and entry is offered in both fall and winter for first year and upper years, with no summer intake. The program suits students who want to build software development skills through team-based, applied coursework alongside opportunities for workplace experience.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Common BEng prerequisites for most Canadian provincial programs are senior-level English, chemistry, physics and mathematics (calculus and/or advanced functions); Ontario applicants need ENG4U, SCH4U, SPH4U, MHF4U, MCV4U plus one further 4U/M course, each at a minimum final grade of 70%. Admission is competitive, with an academic average in the mid-80s typically expected and a final average of 78% required to maintain an offer. International equivalencies include a minimum IB diploma score of 30, 14 overall on the Baccalauréat Français, a 3.7/4.0 GPA on US high-school Grade 11-12 courses (AP scores of 4 or 5 eligible for transfer credit), a GCE A-Level average of B, 4.5/5.0 on the Hong Kong HKDSE, and 75% on Indian credentials. College transfer applicants need at least 3.3 on a 4-point scale and university transfer applicants at least 3.0; mature applicants (21 or older) must meet the same prerequisites within the previous five years. Unless exempt, applicants must meet Lassonde's undergraduate English proficiency minimums: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88 (no section below 20), PTE Academic 60 across all sections, Duolingo 120 (no section below 105), or CAEL 60.

Winter 2027 entry closes November 18, 2026 for all applicant types and Summer 2027 entry closes April 1, 2027.
