The PhD in Environmental Studies at York University is an interdisciplinary program addressing environmental issues across natural, social, political, cultural and urban dimensions. Students examine how theoretical and practical approaches to environmental research intersect, redefining the boundaries of environmental research and analysis, and develop original doctoral research within the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change. Applicants submit two letters of recommendation, a writing sample, a multi-part statement of academic interest, and a resume or CV as part of the full-time-only application. The program is offered on a full-time basis with a single fall entry point each year, and is described by the faculty as the most diverse doctoral program of its kind addressing environmental concerns. Graduates pursue careers in environmental research, policy, education, and community and organizational work related to sustainability and environmental change.
