The MA in Socio-Legal Studies is an interdisciplinary graduate program building on York's tradition of law and society research and teaching. The one-year program combines coursework in socio-legal theory and methods with a required Major Research Paper, drawing on faculty from law, criminology, political science, and sociology. Admission requires an undergraduate degree with a minimum B+ average, and applications include three letters of recommendation, a 500-word statement of interest, a sample of written work, and a CV or resumé. Graduates are prepared for research, policy, and further doctoral study examining the relationship between law and society. A related PhD stream, assessed by comprehensive examination and dissertation, is offered within the same program and draws on the same interdisciplinary faculty base.
