MA/MS in Theatre

This MFA in Theatre provides conservatory-level graduate training for advanced theatre artists, offered in two streams: Performance Creation and Design for the Performing Arts. The Performance Creation stream develops performers and creators through studio-based practice, while the Design stream trains students in design disciplines for professional theatre production, such as set, costume, or lighting design. Applicants apply directly to a stream and complete either an audition and interview (Performance Creation) or a portfolio evaluation (Design), coordinated directly with the program. The application also requires a resumé or CV, a statement of intent, and three letters of recommendation. Admission and program administration are handled jointly by York University's Department of Theatre and the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The program combines practice-based studio work with critical and theoretical study of theatre, preparing graduates for careers as performers, creators, and designers in professional theatre and related performing arts fields.
