Yukon University's Health Care Assistant Certificate is a one-year program of 14 courses (39 credits) that prepares students to work as front-line caregivers in community and facility settings. The program runs from late August through May, with a short break in December, and combines classroom instruction with community-based work experience placements in a blended delivery format. Students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide person-centred care supporting the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual well-being of clients and residents. Practical placements give students direct experience working alongside front-line staff in care settings before graduation. Graduates are prepared to work as health care assistants in Yukon's health and continuing care sector. The program is not currently accepting international applicants because of high demand for domestic seats.
