Diploma in Practical Nurse is a diploma in Nursing programme taught at Yukon University in Whitehorse, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered in a hybrid format. Tuition for international students is CAD 400 per credit (CAD 152 per credit for local students).
Yukon University's Practical Nurse program is a two-year diploma delivered in partnership with Bow Valley College, based at the Whitehorse (Ayamdigut) campus with some courses available online or by video and clinical placements arranged off-campus. Coursework covers nursing assessment, prescribed treatments, client care activities, pharmacology, pathophysiology, maternity and pediatric nursing, mental health nursing, anatomy, physiology, interpersonal communication, and sociology. Clinical courses follow five instructional terms and include placements in foundational nursing and medical-surgical care, culminating in a preceptorship as a pre-graduate comprehensive practicum. The program suits students seeking a direct route into practical nursing practice in the North. On completion, graduates are prepared to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination and apply for licensure, going on to work in long-term care, hospital, and community or home care settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Academic entry requires at least 60% in both English 12 and Biology 12, or equivalents (Bow Valley College's online ANAT 1101 may substitute for Biology 12), plus a pass in Math 11, either Foundations or Pre-Calculus. Selection is competitive: applicants are ranked by the combined average of their English and Biology grades. Six seats per intake are reserved for qualified Yukon First Nation students. Admitted students must complete CPR BLS training within the programme, hold current immunization records, pass an acceptable criminal record check including the vulnerable sector search, and complete WHMIS 2015. The programme currently does not accept international applicants because of high domestic demand, so Yukon University's published international English-test tiers are not presently in effect for this intake. The application deadline is March 25, 2026, for a late-August start.
