Of the two bachelor's degrees given by Boston University's Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, this one concentrates on harnessing and steering electromagnetic energy. Nearly everything we capture electronically starts with a sensor that converts a physical effect into a signal, so graduates learn how to design those sensors, their circuits and the algorithms that interpret the data.
Early study covers science, math and basic engineering, followed by electronics, electromagnetics, signals, and digital and computer systems. Elective choices let students sample communications, control, photonics, devices, circuits and software, and there are chances to explore data science.
Design appears throughout the courses and peaks in a full-year senior capstone, shared with computer engineers, in which teams build a product for a customer brief. The program carries ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission accreditation.
