AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

Communication Studies at Hartnell College is offered as an associate degree designed for transfer. It develops the interpersonal skills, analytical thinking and problem-solving that employers across the arts, business and the sciences look for. The degree is meant to prepare students to continue into a bachelor's program at a four-year university. From there, graduates may go on to graduate study in the field, law school, or other advanced programs where strong communication ability matters. Students can consult the published program map to plan their courses and read career information for the major. The Arts and Languages office on the main campus handles inquiries about the discipline and can point newcomers toward the right advisors. Students are encouraged to talk with a counselor to confirm which courses fit their intended destination and to build a realistic term-by-term plan.
