The Architectural and Structural CADD and Graphics Technician (Structural Option) Certificate is a full-time, in-person program covering computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) for structural building systems and construction. Students develop skills in preparing structural working drawings, detailing building components, and producing construction documentation using industry-standard drafting and CADD practices, taught by registered professionals and practising technicians and technologists. The program runs a single annual intake beginning in September and has a total program length of 40 weeks, including field and site visits, industry guest speakers, and a practicum of two weeks to one month that does not carry an additional fee. Admission requires English language proficiency at BCIT's Category 3 level (English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent) and a Grade 11 math course such as Pre-Calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, or Workplace Math 11 at 50%. The program is open to international applicants, who require a valid BCIT study permit before starting, but does not meet the field-of-study requirement for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Graduates may pursue roles such as structural drafting, architectural drafting, building design support, construction documentation, and BIM modelling.
