The Architectural and Structural CADD and Graphics Technician (Architectural Option) Certificate is a full-time, in-person program covering computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) for architectural building systems and construction. Students prepare architectural documents from the Schematic Design phase through the Construction Documentation phase, following industry standards and applying building code and zoning restrictions. Training includes architectural drafting standards, hand drafting and sketching, and industry-standard CADD and BIM software. The program runs a single annual intake beginning in September and has a total program length of 40 weeks, including field and site visits, industry guest speakers, and a practicum of two weeks to one month. Admission requires English language proficiency at BCIT's Category 3 level (English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent) and a Grade 11 math course such as Pre-Calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, or Workplace Math 11 at 50%. The program is open to international applicants, who require a valid BCIT study permit before starting, but does not meet the field-of-study requirement for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Graduates may pursue roles such as architectural drafting, building design support, assistant site superintendent, and BIM modelling.
