Program details

Overview

Brock University's Honours Bachelor of Arts in Critical Criminology, offered through the Faculty of Social Sciences, examines whose interests are served by 'law and order' ideologies, policies and practices of social control. The program takes a critical orientation to law making, law breaking, law enforcement and social reaction, situating crime and punishment within broader questions of surveillance, criminalization, and interpersonal and structural violence. Students study criminology alongside theories of justice and equity, a framing distinct within the field and within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Coursework combines theory and methods training with applied and practical experience, preparing graduates for roles in law, policy, research and data analysis, and public accountability. A Minor in Critical Criminology is also available to students in other programs. The program participates in Brock's Law Plus initiative and offers experiential learning and international opportunities.
