The Bachelor of Music at Carleton University covers the practice, analysis and history of music across multiple traditions and styles. Coursework spans European classical music from the Middle Ages to the present, Canadian music, computer music, composition, ethnomusicology, jazz, popular music, and gender studies in music. Students receive individual performance instruction in their chosen tradition and can join ensembles including choir, chamber music, jazz, opera, and West African drumming. The program provides access to the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, a computer music studio, a Canadian music score collection, and specialized jazz record collections. It leads to a Bachelor of Music (BMus) degree combining performance, composition, and scholarly study of music. Ensemble participation and access to specialized collections support both the performance and research components of the degree.
