Overview

The BA Undeclared allows students to defer choosing a major until after their first year while they explore a range of subject areas within Carleton's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Students work with academic advisors and university services during first year to assess their interests, skills and values before entering a major. First-year BA students are encouraged to include a First-Year Seminar, a class of no more than 30 students that allows direct discussion with faculty on a focused topic, alongside a wide selection of introductory courses across disciplines. The program suits students who are uncertain which subject to specialize in, or who want time to test different disciplines before committing, and it leads into any of Carleton's Bachelor of Arts majors once a subject is declared after first year.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Ontario secondary school applicants to the BA Undeclared apply through OUAC with an OSSD plus six 4U/M courses, including a 4U course in English (or anglais); applicants who submit an English-language proficiency test may use it to satisfy this English prerequisite instead. The overall admission average is set each year on a program-by-program basis. International applicants must meet Carleton's English-language proficiency standard unless exempt.
