Applicants whose primary language of instruction was not English must meet Carleton's English-language proficiency standard: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 per band), TOEFL iBT 86 overall (minimum 22 in writing and speaking, 20 in reading and listening, for tests taken before 21 January 2026), Duolingo English Test 120 overall (minimum 110 in writing, reading and speaking, 105 in listening), Pearson PTE Academic 55 overall (minimum 47 per skill), CAEL 70 overall (minimum 60 per band), or Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 overall (minimum 169 per component).
