This program leads to Canada's first Master of Cognitive Science at Carleton University, an interdisciplinary degree spanning the humanities, social sciences, and sciences to study thought and cognition. Students choose between a thesis pathway and a research-project pathway, and a collaborative specialization in Digital Humanities or Data Science can be added to the core program; the Department of Cognitive Science also offers a related Post-Baccalaureate Diploma. Research within the department includes computational modelling of visual scene understanding, the cognitive and neurological foundations of language comprehension, the use of human perception and cognition in designing human-machine systems, formal and experimental linguistics, and the development of children's cognitive and representational abilities. The program runs full-time over 16 to 24 months, delivered in person in Ottawa, with Fall-term admission and a January 15 application deadline. Ottawa's research institutions, including Statistics Canada, the Ottawa Hospital, and the National Research Council, offer collaboration opportunities for students during the program.
