Overview

Social Sciences is a pre-university Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered at Cegep de Chicoutimi, built around the disciplines of economics, psychology, history, administration, geography, political science, and sociology. The program is designed to develop students' personal, social, and civic engagement, using an interactive, student-centred teaching approach focused on contemporary social issues and the evolution of society. Select courses double as preparation for specific university prerequisites, including a biology course and up to four mathematics courses, and students take part in a mock National Assembly exercise through the college's Student Forum. Double-DEC combinations with Natural Sciences or Visual Arts are available to students who qualify. The program suits students who enjoy collaborative, project-based learning, want to understand human behaviour and how societies function, and are interested in civic participation and contemporary social questions. It is designed as a broad foundation for university study across the social sciences, social sciences-adjacent professional fields, and administration, giving students exposure to multiple disciplines before they choose a specific university program.
