Overview

Civil Engineering Technology is a technical Diploma of College Studies (DEC technique) offered at Cegep de Chicoutimi. The program covers four main areas: steel, wood, and concrete structures; construction estimating and project management; surveying, road design, and environmental considerations; and the analysis of soil and material properties, alongside training in specialized drafting and design software. Students learn tasks tied to construction projects, including site supervision, inspection of civil-engineering structures, surveying work, and materials and soil analysis. An optional paid work-study (alternance travail-études) placement is available in the student's area of study, along with an optional international study session in France. A DEC-BAC pathway lets students register for an integrated program that includes the university prerequisites for civil engineering at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi within their technical course schedule. The program suits students who enjoy large-scale construction work, are comfortable working outdoors and in teams, and want to apply scientific and technical knowledge to hands-on drafting, laboratory, and field-measurement work.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES) meeting Cegep de Chicoutimi's general conditions: Langue d'enseignement and Langue seconde at Secondary V, Mathematiques at Secondary IV, Science et technologie (or Applications technologiques et scientifiques) at Secondary IV, and Histoire et education a la citoyennete at Secondary IV; candidates missing units may be admitted conditionally and must complete upgrading courses in their first session. Equivalent routes are also accepted: a vocational diploma (DEP) plus the same three core courses, training judged equivalent by the college, or sufficient formation and experience combined with at least 36 months away from full-time study. On top of these general conditions, this programme requires Mathematiques Technico-sciences or Sciences naturelles at Secondary V and Science et technologie de l'environnement or Sciences et environnement at Secondary IV (Mathematiques 526 and Sciences physiques 436 for diplomas earned before June 2010). Applicants intending the integrated DEC-BAC pathway with UQAC's civil engineering degree should select that option on their SRASL application so the required prerequisites are scheduled. No language test score, portfolio, or interview is published for this programme.
