This three-year Diploma of College Studies (DEC) trains medical laboratory technologists who perform the analyses and specimen collections that underlie up to 85% of medical diagnoses. Coursework spans five clinical sectors: biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, histology, and transfusion medicine. Students begin blood-draw training in the first year and, from the second year, work in a dedicated blood-collection clinic serving real clients. The program concludes with a 21-week hospital internship, and the college's proximity to Hôpital de Chicoutimi lets students train on the same laboratory information software used by regional hospital labs. Graduates are qualified to work in hospital, private, and public-health laboratories performing diagnostic testing across all major analytical disciplines. Admission requires good color perception and visual acuity given the precision testing involved, and proof of primary vaccination is required before hospital placements begin. The program combines theoretical instruction with extensive hands-on laboratory practice throughout all six sessions.
