Diploma in Techniques de bioécologie

Techniques de bioecologie is a three-year technical program that trains scientists to understand ecosystems by identifying the organisms that compose them and analyzing how these organisms interact with their environment. Coursework combines classroom study with extensive laboratory and field work: students carry out forest inventories, characterize waterways and marine shorelines, collect and identify algae, plankton, plants, insects and benthic invertebrates, and capture and measure amphibians, fish, birds and small mammals, alongside microbiology training. The curriculum groups courses into field courses, ecology and environment, microbiology, animal biology, plant biology, chemistry, and research methodology. In the final session, students complete a five-week workplace internship, which can take place across sectors linked to bioecology such as fieldwork, laboratories, animal or plant work, research centres, or outreach, and some students complete their capstone internship or research project abroad, including a partnership in Belize. Graduating students design and carry out a personalized research project applying the scientific method from problem definition through data analysis and presentation. DEC-BAC agreements with certain universities allow graduates to receive up to a year of credit toward a related bachelor's degree. The program suits students drawn to fieldwork, laboratory research and the study of living organisms and natural environments.
