Overview
Technologie de l'eau is a three-year technical DEC that trains technicians in water treatment and environmental protection, responsible for analyzing, treating and optimizing the management of drinking water and related equipment. The program develops skills across five areas: environmental analysis, meaning interpreting analytical protocols, performing physical, chemical and microbiological tests, and sampling and characterizing raw, waste and treated water and sludge; treatment and optimization of water production; management of facilities and public-health procedures; technical design support such as graphic representation and reading plans and specifications; and hydraulics and hydrology, covering the behaviour of surface and groundwater systems. Coursework combines chemistry, hydraulics, computer-aided drafting, instrumentation and microbiology, with practical work included in nearly every specialized course, alternating between laboratory analysis and plant- and field-based equipment operation. Four eco-citizenship competencies are built into the program around water treatment and environmental protection. An accelerated DEC pathway is available, offering an adjusted schedule that lets students reach the job market sooner while covering the same expertise as the regular DEC. Admission is offered in the Fall or Winter session and is not subject to a competitive quota.
